
QuickBooks -6000 errors occur when there is an issue preventing you from opening your company file.
1. The first thing you should do before taking other steps to fix a -6000 error is to Update QuickBooks. 2. If that doesn’t resolve your issue, download the QuickBooks Tool Hub and run File Doctor. 3. If you still receive a -6000 order, refer to the following list to see the possible reason for the error: Error codes and the most likely causes that you are receiving them are:- -6176, 0: The firewall isn’t allowing the connection between computers
- -6000, -107: The .TLG file is corrupt
- -6000, -1076: The QuickBooks installation is corrupted
- -6010, -100; -6138, -105; -6210,0; -6189, -83; -6190, -83: A computer other than your server is hosting the QuickBooks company file.
- -6012, -1061; -6144, -82; -6000, -82: The network is set up in correctly
- -6129, -101; The folder permissions or QuickBooks Database Server Manager isn’t working correctly
- -6190, 816; -6190, -85; -6190, -82: A user is in single user mode in the company file, or the transaction log file (.TLG) and company file (.QBW) are mismatched
- -6000, -832: The .ND file isn’t working correctly
- -6144, -304; -6190, 1005; -6189, 1005: Occurs in a sample file
- -6000, -305: Damage to the company file or incorrect network setup
- -6073, -816: More than one computer is hosting the company file, there is damage to the file or incorrect firewall settings
- -6144. -103; -6144, 0: The QuickBooks Database Manager Windows user account is damaged or the .ND file to your company file is incorrect
- -6120, 0: The 8019 firewall port is blocked or a workstation is hosting the company file.
- -6087,0; -6131,0: A user opened the file locally
- -6147,0: This occurs when you restore a company backup (.QBB)
For errors when you open the file locally
If you open your company file on the same computer where you’ve installed QuickBooks, try these steps in order:- 1. Rename the .ND and .TLG files
- Open the folder with your company file.
- Find the file with the same name as your company file but that ends in .ND and .TLG (for example, companyfile.qbw.nd and companyfile.qbw.tlg)
- Right-click the file and click Rename. Then add “old” to the end of the file name (for example, companyfile.qbw.ndOLD)
- Open QuickBooks and try to sign in.
- Open a sample company file
- In the No Company Openwindow, click Open a Sample File and choose one of the samples.
- If It opens, go to the next step. If you get the same error message, repair your QuickBooks installation files.
- Copy the QuickBooks file to your desktop
- Open the folder that contains your company file.
- Select the file that ends in .QBW
- Right-click it and click Copy. Then right-click on your desktop and click Paste.
- Hold down the control key and open QuickBooks to open the No Company Open
- Click Open or restore an existing company and open the file you copied to your desktop.
- If you get the error message again, go to step 4.
- Restore a backup
- Make sure you’re your computer isn’t hosting QuickBooks
- Open your company file, and in the File menu, click Utilities.
- If the Stop Hosting Multi-User Access option appears, click Yes, and in the Company file must be closed window, click Yes.
- In the location of your company file, copy the path from the address bar (make sure it is less than 210 characters).
- Try to restore the company file again.
- If you get the error again, try step 5.

For errors when you open a file on the network
If you open the company file from a workstation that doesn’t host QuickBooks, try these steps to resolve -6000 errors.- Make sure all workstations have hosting turned off
- Rename the .ND and .TLG files and run the Database Server Manager from the QuickBooks Tool Hub
- Open the folder with your company file.
- Find the file with the same name as your company file but that ends in .ND and .TLG (for example, companyfile.qbw.nd and companyfile.qbw.tlg)
- Right-click the file and click Rename. Then add “old” to the end of the file name (for example, companyfile.qbw.ndOLD)
- Select Network Issues in the Tools Hub
- Click Database Server Manager. If QuickBooks isn’t installed on your server, install it.
- In the Database Server Manager, click Start Scan if you see your company files. If you don’t, click Browse to locate them, then click Start Scan.
- Open QuickBooks and try to sign in.
- If you still receive an error message, go to step 4.
- Open a sample file locally
- In the No Company Openwindow, click Open a Sample File, and open a file.
- If it opens, go to step 4. If it doesn’t, repair your QuickBooks
- Open the company file locally
- Open the folder with your company file.
- Find the file that ends in .QBW.
- Right-click the file and click Copy.
- Go to desktop, right-click on the desktop, then select Paste.
- While holding down the control key, open QuickBooks in the No Company Open window.
- Select Open or restore an existing company. Open the file you copied to your desktop.
- If you still get an error message, go to step 5.
- Close all QuickBooks processes
- Log in as Administrator on the server
- Use Ctrl+Shift+Escto access the task manager.
- Show processes for all users. Select the Users
- End each QuickBooks task (EXE, qbupdate.exe, and QBDBMgr.exe).
- Open the company file in multi-user mode.
- If you haven’t resolved the issue, go to step 6.
- Check folder permissions
- Configure firewall ports and antivirus software
