The 2020s began with mass migration to cloud office solutions, and many businesses chose Microsoft. The company reports that Office 365 (now Microsoft 365) and other commercial products saw a revenue increase of 23 percent in the first quarter of fiscal year 2022. Millions of users – and counting — rely on the information, files, and data in Exchange, Sharepoint, and Teams to be there when they need it. And industry leader Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365 makes sure it’s always accessible.   Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365’s 7 million+ users span all markets and industries, from healthcare and financial services to retail, education, and IT, helping to keep their businesses compliant and their data protected.

Why You Need Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365

One of the things that users love about Microsoft 365 is that it makes so many processes easy, from sending and archiving emails, storing documents in OneCloud, and collaborating on Teams. The suite’s ease of use may lull some users into assuming that there’s nothing to worry about if they ever need to recover lost or deleted data. However, users need to take an active role.  Microsoft has established a “shared responsibility” model that makes you, as well as Microsoft, responsible for data protection. For example, while Microsoft enables short-term recovery of items in the recycle bin, it doesn’t give you that option long-term. Additionally, you also need to consider how much time it would take to use Microsoft to restore Exchange emails or lost SharePoint files and the impact it could have on your business’ agility and productivity.   Most businesses determine that they need a comprehensive solution like Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365 that pickups up where Microsoft’s data recovery feature leaves off, eliminating any ambiguity about whether Microsoft or your business is responsible for certain data — as well as giving you additional capabilities, including granular recovery, bulk restore, and point-in-time recovery.   Additionally, Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365 provides healthcare providers, government agencies, legal offices, financial institutions, and other regulated industries with an effective way to comply with retention policies, data protection, and recoverability requirements. Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365 is also a key element of your data security strategy, allowing you to create immutable backups that can help you quickly recover after a ransomware or malware attack.

What’s New in Version 6?

Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365 has two compelling new features:
  • Self-Service Restore Portal
This portal puts power into the hands of users. When authorized users log into the portal securely, they can restore data without the assistance of an IT staff member. It’s designed to save you time – not only with restores but also by eliminating the need to build and maintain your own portal. For additional control, it enables restore access without the need to provide direct access to the backup server.
  • Backup copy to object storage
Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365 Version 6 makes it easier for you to follow the “3-2-1” rule:
  • Keep 3 copies of data
  • Use 2 types of media
  • Store 1 copy offsite
With Veeam’s new version, you can save money by creating one copy as low-cost, long-term cloud object storage and, if necessary, keeping datasets divided by required retention periods. It also adds new backup copy options — Amazon S3 Glacier, Glacier Deep Archive, and Azure Archive — as well as continues to enable you to backup to AWS S3, Azure Blob, IBM Cloud, Wasabi and other S3-compatible providers. With choice, you can keep a backup copy with an alternate cloud provider to avoid vendor lock-in.
